Originally two Victorian Houses, The Elizabeth House Hotel in Southampton, was opened some 60 years ago by an ex cruise liner steward. Photos and pictures in the Reception Lounge area remind visitors of this connection with the sea.
As part of a sustained programme of improvement, the present owners added No. 42 The Avenue (next door) in 2001, which was, for many years, the Rectory for St. Barnabas Church and latterly the constituency office of the late Sir James Hill, one of Southampton's M.P's.
There are now 27 ensuite bedrooms. High ceilings, original plaster covings, stained glass and banisters etc. have been retained giving the hotel a spacious airy ambience.
